Individuals planning to get permanent residency in Canada must qualify for one of the Express Entry managed streams – Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, or Canadian Experience Class.
Launched back in January 2015, Express Entry is the primary source of skilled immigration to Canada. As per the new Immigration Levels Plan, IRCC is planning to welcome over 100,000 new permanent residents every year between 2024 and 2026.
To qualify for Canada PR from India through Express Entry, you need to obtain 67 points (out of 100) in the Canada 67 points calculator. If you meet this requirement and submit a complete application with supporting documents, you can get your PR visa in just 6 months.
Factors Influencing the Canada PR Points
The 67-point calculator ranks and evaluates the points based on the following selection factors:
Factors | Maximum Points Awarded |
Age | 12 |
Language Skills | 28 |
Education | 25 |
Work Experience | 15 |
Arranged Employment | 10 |
Adaptability | 10 |
Total | 100 |
1. Age
Most points are awarded to candidates between 18 and 35 years of age under the age factor. The points are based on your age – on the day you submit your PR application. No points are given to those applications who are 47 & over at the time of applying.
2. Language Skills
Next on the list, we have the points for language skills in either English or French. You will be ranked depending on your ability to listen, speak, write, and read in one of the two official languages of Canada. If you decide to take an English language test, achieve the minimum IELTS score for Canada PR to get a maximum of 24 points. If you know French, an additional 4 points will be awarded.
3. Education
You can obtain 25 points max. for the education factor in the 67-point calculator. This score will depend on whether you completed your school or college in Canada or your home country. If you have foreign education, you need to get an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) done.
4. Work Experience
The points you will achieve for work experience are based on the number of years you have spent doing full-time and paid work – in a skilled occupation. This occupation must also be listed on the Canada Occupation In-demand List 2024
5. Arranged Employment
Though it is not necessary, if you manage to get a job offer from an eligible Canadian employer that is valid for a minimum of one year, you can get 10 additional points for Canada PR. This can make up for the lost points in another factor.
6. Adaptability
If you apply for Canada PR through the popular Express Entry streams, you can include your spouse and dependents in your PR application to get 10 additional points.
How to Apply?
Once you qualify for Canada PR in the 67-point calculator, move on to the next steps:
Step 1: Create an online profile
After qualifying for one of Canada’s Express Entry programs, go ahead and create an online profile through the Canadian government’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.
Complete the application form and put in details about your work experience, language test results, educational qualifications, and other relevant information.
Step 2: Enter the Express Entry pool
Submit your profile and you will be placed in the Express Entry pool, where you will be ranked against other candidates based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
Step 3: Get an ITA
IRCC conducts Express Entry draws frequently, inviting eligible candidates with the highest CRS score. If you get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canada PR from India, you will have to submit a complete PR application within 30 days of time. Submit the required documents along with the application to avoid further delays.
During your application processing, IRCC will notify you to take your biometrics and medical exam – which you must take as soon as possible. Also, get security clearance. Provide documents of financial stability to prove you have enough funds to settle in Canada and provide for accompanying family members unless you find a valid employment letter (in case you don’t already have one).
